FAQs

There are a number of questions you may have about how websites are made, what you need to do, who you need to speak to to get yourself online. This FAQ section may have a few of the answers you seek and is a good place to drop-in if you are thinking of getting yourself a website.

How much does a website cost?

There are too many variables to be able to offer a price. Each website is different in terms of it's requirements, features, content and therefore price. If you are interested in finding out how much your website idea may cost, please contact Porcupine Web Design to find out.

What do I need to do to get myself online?

The basic technical requirements for getting yourself online are:

  • A web domain, such as mybusiness.co.uk.
  • A web server to host the site on.

Porcupine Web Design Can help you with the purchase of your domain, and we also offer our own competitive hosting package so that you can be up and running with as little fuss as possible.

How long does it take to make a website?

This is also very variable. It depends on the size of the site the number of pages your site consists of), how many features the site has (contact forms, galleries, mailing lists, user accounts, etc), and how quickly I can be provided with text, images, and any other content. Please contact Porcupine Web Design to find out.

Should I provide text, images or any other site assets?

Ideally, yes, but it is not essential. Nobody knows your business nor your website idea like you do, therefore you are in the best position to describe it.

If you would prefer, I can create content for you, but it is more likely to require amendments and will ultimately end up slightly increasing the cost of your website due to the time spent creating your content.

The images I have were taken on a mobile phone, is that okay?

Most mobile phones have fairly decent cameras in them these days, but photos taken on them are often only suitable for certain application within a website. If you wish to include a handful of small to medium sized images demonstrating examples of your work, then they are probably fine. If you want a large and visually impressive full-page background then you should look to use a higher quality camera. With screens getting bigger and bigger, the images need to be of increasing resolution in order to span the entirety of a monitor screen without distorting or becoming pixelated.
